Walter Ernest Butler

Walter Ernest Butler (* 1898 ; † 1978 ) was an English parapsychologist , magician , occultist and writer .

Butler, known by his friends as "Ernie", was born in East Yorkshire to an extended family with many siblings. In England he devoted himself to occult studies as a member of Dion Fortune's Fraternity of the Inner Light , in which he was initiated in 1930 . Butler was also a student of parapsychologist Robert King .

In 1965, Butler founded the occult school "Servants of the Light School of Occult Science", or SOL for short. Until shortly before his death he was the first director of studies at SOL

His books are still considered classics in the field of occultism in professional circles .
