Walter Franz Tichy (born April 22, 1952 in Bad Reichenhall ) is a professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and member of the collegial management of the Institute for Program Structures and Data Organization (IPD). He is best known to the software development community as the first developer of the Revision Control System (RCS).

Career and research

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the Technical University of Munich (1974), Tichy completed a master’s program at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh (1976) and received his doctorate there in 1980 with Arie Habermann (Ph.D.) with the dissertation Software Development Control Based on System Structure Description .

His current research projects concern experimental methods of computer science and software engineering , software architecture and model research, software configuration management , cluster computing , compiler and programming environments for parallel computers as well as optical-electronic connections .
