Walter Gehlhoff

Walter Gehlhoff (born May 6, 1922 in Berlin ; † August 15, 2004 in Ittenbach ) was a German diplomat and State Secretary in the Foreign Office (1974–1977).

Life

After the Federal Republic of Germany was admitted on September 15, 1973, Walter Gehlhoff was the first ambassador to the United Nations . From 1974 to 1977 he was an official state secretary in the Foreign Office under Foreign Minister Genscher . From 1977 to 1984 Walter Gehlhoff was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Holy See .

After retiring, Walter Gehlhoff was involved in the Presidium of the German Society for the United Nations (DGVN). As ambassador a. D. he checked the German-British youth exchange between 1984 and 1986. From 1985 to 1989 Gehlhoff was a member of the Executive Council of UNESCO .
