Walter Hemming
Walter Hemming (born June 11, 1894 in Düsseldorf , † December 27, 1979 in Brilon ) was a German painter .
Life
Hemming, son of the decorative painter Carl Hemming and Alma, born in Uri, attended, like his younger brother Hans (1896–1917), the secondary school on Scharnhorststrasse. This was followed by studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and extensive study trips to many countries. His painting style was traditionally academic. His special love was the lake, which was also a frequent motif for his pictures. He was also very interested in technical things, which found its expression in images of heavy industry and shipyards. In 1942 he settled in Brilon after it was bombed in Düsseldorf. He captured his new hometown in many historicizing pictures. His best-known work was the historical cityscape, which he made on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city's foundation.
