Walter Hoyer (civil engineer)

Walter Hoyer (born March 15, 1912 in Dresden ; † January 19, 2000 in Bad Herrenalb ) was a German civil engineer and university professor specializing in steel construction .

After studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Dresden , Hoyer began working in Jucho steel construction in Dortmund in 1937. After 1945 he returned to his homeland and, as technical director in the Saxon bridge and steel structure in Dresden, was in charge of the reconstruction of bridges and industrial companies.

In 1956 Walter Hoyer was appointed professor for the fields of steel construction and strength engineering at the University of Civil Engineering in Cottbus . In 1962 he moved to the Technical University of Dresden and initially took over the areas of statics and steel construction in conveyor technology as well as structural dynamics , then from 1971 the entire steel construction. From 1968 to 1971 Walter Hoyer was the first director of the newly established civil engineering section. Hoyer also acted as editor of the manual for steel construction , which appeared in several editions in the 1960s and 1970s.
