In 1992, Walter Hruby was probably the first to set up a hospital- wide digital image archiving and communication system ( PACS ) without conventional X-ray films in the Vienna Donauspital, thereby significantly influencing the global development of digital radiology. The introduction of such a system enabled the radiological departments to switch from analog to digital image analysis with a multitude of additional diagnostic options and the associated greatly improved diagnostic quality, without incurring higher costs.

Awards and memberships

Walter Hruby received the Golden Decoration of Honor from the City of Vienna in 2008 .

Until October 2010 Walter Hruby was President of the Austrian Radiological Society and he was also Vice President of the Association of Medical Directors and Primary Physicians in Austria.
