Walter Kern (born February 9, 1954 in Beckum ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2005 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2017.

Life

Kern graduated from school with a secondary school leaving certificate and trained as a banker from 1971 to 1974. In 1978 he graduated as a savings bank economist and from 1975 to 1985 he worked in various departments at Sparkasse Lemgo . In 1986 and 1987 he completed a sales trainer training course. From 1986 to 2002 he was head of the marketing and personnel development department at Sparkasse Bad Salzuflenand from 2002 to 2004 he took over the management of various projects at Sparkasse Lemgo, where he has been head of the personnel development department since 2005. This activity was suspended during the 14th legislative period of the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 2010 to May 2012, Kern was press spokesman and head of communications at Sparkasse Lemgo. The employment relationship was suspended from June 2012 to June 2017.

Kern is married and has two children.

Kern has been a member of the CDU since 1972. Since 2008 he has been chairman of the Lippe district committee of the Christian Democratic Workers' Union (CDA). Since 2004 he has been chairman of the CDU city association of Lemgo . From 1989 to 2004 he was a member of the Lemgo City Council, where he was chairman of the youth welfare committee from 1994 to 2004. Since 1999 he has also been a member of the Lippe district council. From June 8, 2005, he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia , where he was a full member of the Committee on Labor, Health and Social Affairs, the Committee on Generations, Family and Integration and the Culture Committee. He represented the Lippe II state constituency . He was also spokesman for his party in the study commission Opportunities for children - framework conditions and control options . In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2010 , he lost his direct mandate and was no longer a member of the new state parliament. In the state elections in 2012 , he moved into the state parliament again via 34th place on the CDU state list and represented his constituency of Lippe II. There he worked in the committees 1. Family, Children, Youth 2. Work, Health, Social 3. Women, Equality and emancipation 4th parliamentary committee of inquiry Westdeutsche Landesbank. He was the representative of the CDU parliamentary group for the Catholic Church. In the state election in 2017 Walter Kern stand again, but not moved into the state parliament.
