Walter August Malmquist (born March 3, 1956 in Fort Bragg , North Carolina ) is a former American Nordic combined athlete and ski jumper .

Career

The Malmquist, who started for the Dartmouth Outing Club, contested his first international race in Nordic Combined at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck . In the individual he was 29.

January 19, 1980 he started as a ski jumper for the first time in the newly created Ski Jumping World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada . In the first competition he was able to collect first World Cup points with 8th place. In the second competition a day later he collected further World Cup points with 13th place. However, it was the only points he could win in his career as he no longer competed in the World Cup. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , he started in both Nordic combined and ski jumping. In the combination he reached the 12th place in the individual. In ski jumping he was 27 on the large hill.
