Walter Mayr (politician)

Walter Mayr (born October 25, 1943 in Retz ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and state manager of the Lower Austrian Workers' Association. He was city councilor and deputy mayor in Groß-Enzersdorf and from 2002 to 2003 and from 2008 to 2009 a member of the Austrian Federal Council and since 2009 club chairman of the ÖVP municipal parliamentary group in Linz.

education and profession

Mayr attended elementary school in Retz from 1951 to 1954 and then moved to Retz secondary school from 1954 to 1957. From 1957 he learned the profession of confectioner and from 1957 to 1960 he also completed the commercial and industrial vocational school in Krems. He also took specialist courses at the commercial school in Retz and completed military service in 1963.

Mayr worked between 1962 and 1969 as the diocesan secretary of the Catholic Youth State of Austria and then from 1970 to 1974 found a job as a secretary at the Lower Austrian Workers' Association. In 1974 he rose to the position of Deputy State Secretary of the NÖAAB and from 1994 worked professionally as the State Director of the NÖAAB.

Politics and functions

Walter Mayr was elected a member of the municipal council of Groß-Enzersdorf in 1985 and in 1995 took over the office of a councilor for economic affairs for Groß-Enzersdorf. He was then from 1995 to 2000 Vice Mayor and City Councilor for Finances and Real Estate of Groß-Enzersdorf and from 2000 to 2005 City Councilor for Road and Hydraulic Construction, Transport and Canal Construction. From 2005 to 2010 he was again a member of the local council. From 1995 to 2000 he also acted as mayor in Mühlleiten.

He was a member of the Federal Council from December 12, 2002 to April 23, 2003 and was again a member of the Federal Council from April 10, 2008 to January 26, 2009.

Mayr was also deputy central leader of the Catholic Youth Country of Austria from 1965 to 1975 and chairman of the development aid group of the Archdiocese of Vienna from 1970 to 2003. He was also involved from 1970 to 1975 as Vice President of the Catholic Action of the Archdiocese of Vienna. He was also a member of the supervisory board of the Gebau-Niobau housing company from 1997 to 2005 and a member of the NBG board from 2005 to 2008. Between 200 and 2010 he held the position of chairman of the board of the EWU Wohnbauunternehmensbeteiligungs AG and has been managing director of the Drosendorf educational facility of LAK-NÖ since 1979. In addition, he has been a partner in the Moosburg-Pörtschach golf course am Wörthersee since 1987, supervisory commissioner at Hypo NÖ Landesbank since 2003, and since 2004 supervisory board member of the Lower Austrian horticultural show planning and establishment GmbH and chairman of the supervisory board of the housing and Kirchberg / Wagram housing association. In 2005 he became chairman of the Arge Wohnen NÖ / Arge Eigenheim Landesgruppe NÖ and in 2007 he was the district manager of the Red Cross Groß-Enzersdorf. He has also been a supervisory board member of Immo-Bank since 2007 and chairman of the NBG housing cooperative since 2009.
