Haworthia pulchella is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodil family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet pulchella is derived from the diminutive of the Latin word pulcher and means 'pretty'.

Haworthia pulchella grows stemless and only sprouts occasionally. The 30 to 45 inwardly curved, narrow triangular leaves form a rosette with a diameter of up to 5 centimeters. The dark to emerald green leaf blade is leathery. On the surface of the leaf there is a block-like patterned network structure. The leaf margin and the leaf keel are covered with protruding, whitish thorns .

The slender inflorescence reaches a length of up to 30 centimeters and consists of 15 to 20 white flowers .

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia pulchella is widespread in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

The first description by Martin Bruce Bayer was published in 1973. A nomenclatory synonym is Haworthia chloracantha var. Pulchella (MBBayer) Halda (1997).

A distinction is made between the following varieties :

  • Haworthia pulchella var. Pulchella
  • Haworthia pulchella var. Globifera M.B.Bayer
