Walter Otto (art historian)

Walter Otto (born July 29, 1911 in Hanover , † April 26, 1971 in Munich ) was a German art historian .

Walter Otto studied at the University of Munich and received his doctorate in 1947. From 1950 he taught there as a private lecturer, in 1956 he completed his habilitation and was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Munich. His students included u. a. Martin Gosebruch .

Walter Otto's research focus was on the area of ​​the early Middle Ages. Thematically, however, his research was broad and extended to contemporary art.
