Walter Posch

Walter Posch (born January 15, 1954 in Mürzzuschlag ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and a former member of the Austrian National Council and European Parliament .

education and profession

Posch attended elementary school between 1960 and 1964 and then an AHS until 1972. He then studied history and German at the University of Graz and graduated in 1979 with the academic degree Mag. Phil. from. 1983 to 1984 Posch did his military service .

From 1979 to 1986 Posch was a teacher at a general secondary school and in 1986 became regional director of the Dr. Karl Renner Institute in Carinthia. In 1990 he moved to the state school board for Carinthia, where he worked until 1994.

politics

Posch was a member of the municipal council of Spittal an der Drau from 1985 to 1991 and has been the state education chairman of the SPÖ Carinthia since 1991. He represented the SPÖ from November 5, 1990 to October 29, 2006 in the National Council. Posch was minority spokesman for the SPÖ parliamentary club. Between January 1, 1995 and June 30, 1995 he was also a member of the European Parliament.
