Walter Rabe

Walter Rabe (born May 19, 1936 in Stuttgart ) is a German artist, draftsman, graphic artist and university professor.

Life

In 1951 Walter Rabe studied at the higher graphic technical school in Stuttgart with Leo Schobinger. From 1954 to 1959 he studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Karl Rössing . After graduating in 1960, Rabe became a lecturer for printmaking techniques with Karl Rössing and, after his departure, with Gunter Böhmer . During this time he edited etchings by the painter Felix Hollenberg and worked as an author on the publication Graphic Cycles with the then director of the Stuttgart City Gallery, Eugen Keuerleber, and the illustrator Robert Förch .

From 1966 to 1971 Walter Rabe taught free graphics and illustration at the Werkkunstschule in Kassel. In 1971 it was incorporated into the Kassel University, renamed the University of Kassel in 1993 and renamed the Kassel Academy of Art in 2000 . From 1971 to 2001 Walter Rabe taught free drawing, graphics and fairy tale illustration in the field of visual communication. He was succeeded by Hendrik Dorgathen , who has been teaching comics and illustration since 2003.

Walter Rabe is known for his original graphics on fairy tales and mythical subjects, which have been traded in auction houses since the 1960s. In 1990 the catalog for the touring exhibition of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart aspects of contemporary art in Baden-Württemberg was published .

In 2001 Walter Rabe had a solo exhibition in the Brothers Grimm Museum in Kassel.
