Walter Rother-Romberg

Walter Rother-Romberg (born October 24, 1906 in Breslau ; died 1950 ) was a German party functionary of the SPD.

Life

Walter Rother-Romberg became a cadet as a child and did a commercial apprenticeship after the First World War. He joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) in 1922 and became a member of the SPD in 1927 . After the transfer of power to the National Socialists in early 1933, he worked illegally for the SPD and was arrested in December 1933 and sentenced to two years in prison. After his release from prison he fled to France via Prague in 1936 and became party secretary of the Sopade in France. Rother-Romberg took part in the Spanish Civil War. After the defeat of the Spanish Republic, he returned to France and was interned. After the outbreak of the Second World War he was recruited into a work company for the French army, after the German occupation of northern France he was imprisoned several times in Vichy France . He became a member of the widely ramified Resistance . In June 1945 he was entrusted by the SPD's exile in London with the organizational reconstruction of the SPD in Bremen and appointed District Secretary Northwest. He was considered to be Kurt Schumacher's shop steward and became a member of the SPD party committee.

The US occupation authorities appointed him a member of the Appointed Bremen Citizenship in April 1946 . The office expired with the election to the citizenship in October 1946.

Rother-Romberg became an employee of the Weser-Kurier . He received a license from the occupation authorities to publish the magazine Radio-Illustrierte . He was awarded the Croix du combattant and the Croix du combattant volontaire in France . According to information from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation , Rother-Romberg died in 1950.
