Walter Schmidt (politician, 1907)
Walter Schmidt (born February 27, 1907 in Braunschweig ; † October 17, 1997 there ) was a German engineer and politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
After attending school, Schmidt completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter and joined the union in the 1920s. He continued his education at technical schools for mechanical engineering and was employed abroad for several years. After passing the master craftsman's examination in mechanical engineering, he worked as a plant engineer in mechanical engineering from 1938. He later took up a job in the oil industry.
Political career
Schmidt had been a member of the SPD since 1926 and was elected deputy chairman of the SPD district of Braunschweig after the Second World War . Schmidt was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 1947 to 1961 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 to 1972 . In parliament he represented the constituency of Braunschweig .

- Walter Schmidt became an honorary citizen of the city of Braunschweig in 1988 .
