Walter Sommer (nutrition researcher)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walter Sommer (born January 22, 1887 ; † November 22, 1985 ) was a German Teutonic and rune researcher , life reformer , nutrition researcher and founder of his own school of life. As a supporter of veganism and the consumption of raw food , he has been considered the vegan with the longest vegan eating period since 1924.

Life

Sommer was one of the most radical vegetarian reformers and a staunch advocate of the raw food diet . In 1924 he founded a publishing house for writings on life reform and a mail order business for fruits, nuts, honey and similar products in Rendsburg / Holstein . Since 1925 he has been sending out his "Lichtheilgrüße" regularly. In these essays he fought for a way of life based on the motto “Create a garden and you will be free!”. - From 1950 to 1981, Sommer published the house news .

Sommer's book "The Primordial Law of Natural Nutrition" appeared in three editions until 1972. It contained radical proposals for economic and social reforms. It is doubtful that his self-published book “The Mirror Image of World History” was confiscated and crushed during the nationalist regime, because in October 1934 he was still offering this work in a price list. Even an alleged writing ban under National Socialism does not seem to have existed, since Sommer was able to continue to send his essays as "Lichtheilgrüße", such as From German Earth. (1934) or Thoughts on the History of the German People (April 1939).

Sommer was married twice. His second wife was Hanna (née Heinecke).

Nutritional research

Sommer saw himself as a “cultural history researcher” who wanted to have proven that the people living in Germania had largely been gardeners and farmers and had been vegetarian until the arrival of the Romans. He found out that before Roman times there was a free right of use of land that enabled people to create a “healthy” and “just” livelihood. This way of life contributed to the emergence of the advanced civilizations around 3000 to 5000 years ago, which spread from here to Asia, North Africa and North America. This way of life would have promoted garden culture, astronomy , geodesy , handicrafts and bartering and reached a heyday.

Sommer described the influence that Roman land ownership had on the development of European history. Based on the wrong diet and lifestyle of the people, a “dark side of existence” emerged from which minorities arose who had not the good of the community, but the exploitation of the peoples in mind. The right of land ownership would have led to land grabbing, expropriation and impoverishment of the population. Sommer postulated a "development law of the civilized peoples" in which it is criticized that the earth has become an object of speculation and which has defended the property right by force of arms. Sommer was of the opinion that this “vicious circle” (vicious circle) could only be broken by changing one's diet and lifestyle. In the years of the Second World War, Sommer said he was temporarily prohibited from writing, so that he did not resume his work until 1950.

Works

Sommer's works were self-published and banned in 1937. It is believed that this ban was due to an intrigue by Karl Maria Wiligut (Weisthor), whose system is similar to Sommer's ideas.
