Walter Stams (born March 29, 1898 in Grätz , Posen ; † September 28, 1973 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1961 to 1967 he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament .

Life

Walter Stams graduated from school with a high school diploma. In April 1915 he became a professional soldier and began an officer career. From November 1919 to June 1935 he worked as a bank and industrial clerk and authorized signatory. In June 1935 he was reactivated as a career officer and joined the Air Force . There was Captain Stams first commander of III. Battalion of the Flak-Lehr-Regiment in Stettin, later in Greifswald . After the beginning of the Second World War , meanwhile promoted to major , Stams took part in the Western campaign as commander of the 1st battalion of Flak Regiment 22 . Then he was employed as chief of staff at the inspector of the flak cartillery. In 1942, Stams was deployed on the Eastern Front as part of the I. Flak Corps. In June 1944, Stams was appointed as a colonel commander of the Flaartillery School I in Rerik . This was the order of General Flakartillerie when Luftwaffe resolved on 12 April 1945 and formed from the portions of the "Flakkampfverband Stam" which with 2-cm-Flak 38 and 3.7 cm FlaK 43 equipped, in the Ground fighting intervened. In addition, ten railway flak batteries were subordinate to the association. On April 16, the combat group was deployed in the Lauenburg - Dömitz section and initially fought off attempts by British units to cross the Elbe . Stams then came with the main part of his association west of Schwerin into British captivity .

After the end of the war he was dismissed and worked as an employee from January 1946. In May 1950 he became a civil servant in the service of the Schleswig-Holstein state government (most recently Oberregierungsrat ), after accepting his state parliament mandate, he retired in November 1961.

Stams became a member of the SPD on April 15, 1946. He was elected to the Kiel city ​​council in May 1955 , and in April 1962 he became a member of the city's magistrate . He was also a member of the supervisory board of Kleinbahnen Kiel-Bad Segeberg and Kiel-Schönberg .

On November 20, 1961, Stams moved up during the fourth electoral term for an outgoing member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament. In the state elections in 1962 he was able to win constituency 24 (Kiel-Nord) as a direct candidate for the SPD and keep his state parliament mandate in the following legislative period. He was a member of parliament until April 28, 1967.
