Walter Trautmann (born March 6, 1906 in Hettstedt ; † October 17, 1983 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German journalist and NSDAP - Gau economic advisor in Gau Halle-Merseburg .

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Trautmann studied economics and politics, and after graduating with a degree in business administration, he completed his doctorate. On November 1, 1932, he became a member of the NSDAP.

Trautmann began his journalistic career at the Franconian Courier in Nuremberg . In 1932 to 1934 and 1935 to 1937 he was editor of the Central German National-Zeitung in Halle , thereafter until 1941 editor of the in Magdeburg appearing Mitteldeutsche .

According to his own statement, Trautmann asked the head of the NS press staff, Rolf Rienhardt, for a position abroad, because his wife, who was considered a “ half-Jew ”, had problems. At the beginning of 1941 the opportunity arose when a successor to the first editor-in-chief Rudolf Sparing was pending for the German occupation newspaper Pariser Zeitung . Trautmann took up the position in May 1941.

Trautmann's success with this newspaper remained within the relatively modest framework of the circulation figures achieved by other occupation newspapers. The circulation of the Pariser Zeitung and its French edition, created in 1941, was usually around 50,000 copies. Things looked much better with the weekly edition first published in October 1943, which was published entirely in French and focused on entertainment. This newspaper reached a circulation of 118,000 copies in April 1944. However, the Allied advance following the invasion of Normandy put an end to all editions of the Pariser Zeitung in August 1944.

After the war, Trautmann became editor-in-chief of the United Economic Services . From 1956 on he was an editor at the Volkswirt , since 1974 business editor at the Basler Nachrichten .
