Walter Treser

Walter Treser (born April 18, 1940 in Bad König ( Odenwald )) is a German automotive and aircraft engineer.

At a young age he was a racing driver and test supervisor at Pirelli . From 1976 he was head of advanced development of special vehicles at Audi , project manager and namesake of the Audi quattro . From 1980 he was head of Audi Sport, responsible for the rally program.

Own vehicle manufacturer

With his own companies Walter Treser GmbH in Hofstetten near Ingolstadt and Walter Treser Automobilbau in Berlin , Treser built special vehicles based on Audi and VW from 1982, including a convertible based on the Audi Quattro .

The production of its own sports car, the Treser TR1, a convertible coupé with a tin roof , ended in 1988 after 24 cars had been built, as its financing failed. A separate racing series, the TR1 Cup, was also planned.

Walter Treser was head of sport at Opel from 1991 and brought the all-wheel drive Opel Calibra to the DTM . Since 1996 he has been Director of Opel Advance Development, where he was responsible for many innovations. Since November 2005 he has been honorary president of the Treser Club e. V. , who lets history live on.
