Walter Vidarte (born July 18, 1931 in Montevideo , † October 29, 2011 in Madrid , Spain ) was a Uruguayan actor .

Life

Vidarte studied at the Escuela de Arte Dramático in Montevideo. He moved to Argentina in 1958 and relocated to Spain in 1973 while dictatorial regimes were taking over political power in both Argentina and his native country. Vidarte was a member of the Comedia Nacional Uruguaya and acted in numerous plays and films in his native Uruguay. This also continued in Argentina and Spain.

In the theater he played in the Valle Inclán pieces Martes de Carnaval and Luces de bohemia . In the former he appeared in 1995 under the direction of Mario Gas , in the latter, José Tamayo was its director from 1997 to 1998 . He also gave, for example, Zorilla's El Tenorio in 2000 and Shakespeare's Hamlet in 2004 . For the latter role he received the Premio Ercilla for best actor. In 2003 he played a role in the adaptation of Jan Potocki's El manuscrito found en Zaragoza , made by Francisco Nieva .

Vidarte was seen in numerous Spanish television series beginning in the second half of the 1970s. The films in which he was also cast included The Armistice by Sergio Renán , Las truchas by José Luis García Sánchez , El placer de matar by Félix Rotaeta and El pianista by Mario Gas. His last major project was in 2006 when he was involved in the film The Night of Sunflowers . He died at the age of 80 in the hospital of the Clínica de la Concepción in Madrid.
