Walter Wittke (General)

Walter Wittke (born September 26, 1887 in Danzig ; † July 20, 1955 ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general in World War II .

Life

Wittke joined the 4th Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 164 as an ensign on March 14, 1907 and fought with it in the First World War . In 1920 he retired from active service and switched to the police.

In 1935 Wittke was taken over by the Wehrmacht and was in command of the 46th Infantry Regiment until September 1939. From the end of 1939 he was in command of the 170th Infantry Division , which he led until February 1942. Then he was General z. b. V. in Army Group South and then Army Group B until 1943. On October 31, Wittke was retired from military service as Lieutenant General.
