Walther Herrmann

Paul Daniel Walther Herrmann (born January 12, 1884 in Reichenau i. Saxony , † August 4, 1979 in Freiberg ) was a German teacher and local researcher . He made particular contributions to researching the history of the mountain town of Freiberg.

Life

From 1905 Walther Hermann studied German, geography and history at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau, Berlin and Leipzig. In 1910 he did his doctorate with Albert Köster with Theodor Storm's poetry (test drives, vol. 1 7). He then worked as a teacher in Zwickau and Zittau, from 1913 on as a student councilor in Freiberg and most recently as senior director of studies there. From 1925 until its dissolution in 1945, he headed the Freiberg Antiquities Association, which was re-established in 1990. In 1948 he founded the Working Group on History in the Kulturbund for the Democratic Renewal of Germany in Freiberg, which he headed until 1962.

He was also a lecturer at the adult education center and at the Bergakademie in Freiberg.
