Walther Koß

Walther Koß (born October 29, 1904 in Wustrow ; † May 1, 1945 in Grimmen ) was a German editor , honorary archive curator and local history researcher in Grimmen.

The son of the businessman Heinrich Koß / Koss (1880–1945) and his wife Ella geb. Freudenthal (1884-1945) was born in the Baltic resort of Wustrow, where the father was the leaseholder of a grocery store and owner of Voss' hotel. In 1908 the family moved to Grimmen, where Heinrich Koss took over a shop in Langestrasse. In 1911 Heinrich Koß was elected chairman of the commercial association. The family was friends with the local writer Rudolf Tarnow , who often visited Grimmen. The mother Ella Koss, inspired by this friendship and the love of the Low German language, wrote poems for special occasions. Some poems are dedicated to Teterow , the town she was born in, which she loved and adored.

Life

After finishing school, Walther Koß joined the editorial team of the Rostocker Zeitung Mecklenburger Warte on October 1, 1924 . He responsibly edited and drawn the local part, the sports page and the entertainment part. From 1930 to 1938 he worked for the Grimmener Kreiszeitung as a permanent employee and from October 1, 1933 as editor . Walther Koß dealt intensively with local history topics. He brought out numerous articles on home and local history in the Grimmener Kreiszeitung as well as other magazines and in book form. On November 11, 1940, Walther Koß was appointed honorary archivist for the Grimmen district on behalf of the Stettin State Archives to safeguard the archives.

Shortly before the end of the war on May 1, 1945, he committed suicide.
