Carl Felix von Schlichtegroll (born January 13, 1862 in Groß-Behnkenhagen , † June 29, 1946 in Volzrade , Mecklenburg) was a German writer and illustrator . He was also the secretary and biographer of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch .

Life

Carl Felix von Schlichtegroll was the second child (first son) of Otto von Schlichtegroll (1833-1903) and Ottilie von Schlichtkrull (1838-1917), the youngest sister of Aline von Schlichtkrull . He was a great-grandson of Friedrich von Schlichtegroll .

He was born in 1862 on the Groß-Behnkenhagen estate. The family later moved to Engelswacht . From 1873 he lived with his grandfather in Greifswald and attended grammar school there until his grandfather's death in 1878. He then attended grammar school in Stralsund until 1881. He then studied painting in Ernst Albrecht Fischer-Cörlin's studio and at the academy in Berlin Max Michael , then in Karlsruhe with H. Hoff and in Stuttgart with W. v. Schraudolph. In 1894 he was a guest teacher in Weimar for the tempera painting process of Baron Alfons von Pereira-Arnstein. He propagated and taught the tempera style of painting in Munich, Milan, Turin and Venice and founded a painting school in Berlin in 1894.

Schlichtegroll was the private secretary of the writer Leopold von Sacher-Masoch . He himself published stories of masochistic content as well as relevant historical works under numerous pseudonyms. After Sacher-Masoch's death in 1895, he published two biographical works about him ( Sacher-Masoch and masochism and "Wanda" without mask and fur ) and edited his novel Africa's Semiramis (1901).

There is a patent application dated June 3, 1901 on the subject of a process for cleaning alcohol using refrigeration and filtration . This shows that he was living at Wilhelmstrasse 35 in Berlin at the time.

Some of his works were included in the list of literature to be discarded after the Second World War in 1946. These were:

  • The standard bearer of Verdun a story from the war year 1914
  • The aviator from Ypres a story from the great world wars
  • I was also there! A story from the battle for Verdun
  • Treufest united
