life and career

In her youth she mostly trained with non-disabled clubmates. When the family moved to Scotland in 2002 and Clegg attended Edinburgh's Royal Blind School , she initially retained this practice at Edinburgh AC. However, her mother soon started looking for her disabled sports competitions. She subsequently won the British Junior Blind Championship and also took part in cross-country races. In 2010 she moved to Loughborough to train at the UK Athletics National Performance Center .

She celebrated her first major success at the age of 16 at the World Athletics Championships in Assen , Netherlands , when she won the silver medal over 200 meters. At the 2008 Paralympic Summer Games in Beijing , she represented her home country over both sprint distances and secured second place in the shorter one. Three years later, at the 2011 World Championships in Christchurch , she became world champion over 100 meters in her class and also claimed her podium over 200 meters.

At her third Paralympic Summer Games - in September 2016 in Rio de Janeiro - she finally won the gold medal over 100 meters in a new world record time. A few weeks earlier she had already set a new world record over double the distance.
