The World Para Athletics Championships in Athletics for the disabled (official name World Para Athletics Championships ) ( English World Para Athletics Championships ; French Championnats du monde d'athlétisme handisport ; Italian Campionati del mondo di atletica leggera paralimpica ; Portuguese Campeonato Mundial de Para-Atletismo ; Russian Чемпионат по лёгкой атлетике (МПК) ) are competitions that have been held by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) since 1994 to determine the world champions in the individual athletics disciplines.

Classification
The classification of the participating athletes is similar to the procedure in the Paralympic Games and enables the greatest possible equality of opportunity by forming different groups. The identification is made by a combination of a letter and a two-digit number. An example is the South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius . His legs were amputated below the knees ; he therefore starts in class T43 . The visually impaired shot putter Jodi Willis-Roberts from Australia, on the other hand, competes in group F12 . As a result, the World Championships in Athletics for the disabled have significantly more medal decisions than at the World Championships for the non-disabled .
