Walther Koeniger

Walther Koeniger (born December 18, 1880 in Berlin ; † March 24, 1964 there ) was a German engineer and university professor.

Life

Walther Koeniger attended the Askanisches Gymnasium in his hometown and studied mechanical engineering at the Royal Technical University of Berlin from 1900 to 1905 . After a brief stint at Siemens-Schuckertwerke in Berlin , he moved back to the Technical University in 1907, where he initially worked as an assistant and later as a senior engineer. After completing his doctorate in 1915 with a topic on refrigeration technology, Koeniger completed his habilitation in 1921. From 1921 he was a private lecturer and from 1922 an associate professor at the Technical University of Berlin, where he taught refrigeration , process engineering and heating engineering . From 1922 to 1931, he was also in charge of the main heating department of the Rütgers -Werke and Deutsche Petroleum-AG in Berlin. Koeniger's license to teach was revoked in April 1938 on the basis of the Reich Habilitation Regulations. However, he was able to continue working at the research institute for refrigeration and drying technology he founded in 1932 and financed himself on the premises of the Technical University of Berlin until 1945. From the summer semester of 1946 until his retirement in 1951, he was full professor for heating and cooling technology at the Technical University of Berlin, and from 1947 to 1948 also dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Koeniger was a co-founder and board member of the Technical Monitoring Association Berlin. From 1951 to 1953 he was a board member of the Association of German Engineers (VDI). He was also a board member of DECHEMA and a member of the German refrigeration association .

In March 1957 Koeniger was made an honorary senator of the Technical University of Berlin.
