Walther von Witzleben

Walther Otto Dietrich von Witzleben (born August 16, 1865 in Ebersbach ; † May 14, 1949 ) was a Saxon major general .

Walther came from the Thuringian noble family von Witzleben and was the son of the Saxon chief forest master Oskar von Witzleben. He was married twice. The first marriage had four children, of which the two sons embarked on a military career.

Witzleben went through a military career in the Saxon Army and was commander of the 12th Infantry Regiment No. 177 during the First World War and, from August 5, 1917, commander of the 46th Reserve Infantry Brigade. For his achievements during the fighting on the Western Front , Witzleben was awarded the Commander's Cross II. Class of the Military-St. Henry's Order has been entrusted.
