Wanadoo was one of the most important French Internet Service Providers (ISP) from 1996 to 2006 before the service was renamed Orange in 2006 . Originally an independent subsidiary of France Télécom , the Wanadoo group was merged with the British company Orange by France Télécom.

The company's business objective was the provision of provider services in the telecommunications sector for private customers. The part of the business that owned the telephone directory in the company association was floated on the stock exchange in 2004 under the name Pages Jaunes ( Yellow Pages ). In 2002 Wanadoo's turnover was more than 2 billion euros, of which 50% was accounted for by Internet access, 42% by the yellow pages and 8% by the portals.

In Great Britain and Belgium , the company operated, among other things, ADSL connections - there via Wanadoo Belgique, which was sold to Tiscali in the first quarter of 2003 .

The activities of the Wanadoo web portal were provided by the subsidiary Wanadoo Portails, which in 2003 merged access with Wanadoo France. The Wanadoo portals consisted of Wanadoo, Voilà , Wanadoo in Spain (originally Eresmás ), Freeserve (now also called Wanadoo in Great Britain). In France , the portal had the Voila search engine developed by the Echo company and taken over by Wanadoo in 2001.

In Great Britain, Wanadoo operated under the name Freeserve until April 28, 2004.
