Wanaparthi is a city in the Indian state of Telangana .
The city is the capital of the Wanaparthi district . Wanaparthi has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 48 wards . It had 60,949 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census , of which 31,501 were men and 29,448 women . The literacy rate in 2011 was 77.9%, below the national average for cities. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of around 83%. Muslims form a minority with a share of around 15%.
The city was once controlled by the Raja of Wanaparthi, a feudal ruler. This was a vassal of the Nizam of Hyderabad .
