The Hettlage department store was a branch of the Hettlage company and was located at Klosterstrasse 39 - 41, at the corner of Kreuzstrasse 4 - 6 in Düsseldorf .

building

The first commercial building at this point was built by the architect Peter Paul Fuchs in 1894 for the G. Hettlage company from Elberfeld and rebuilt and expanded from 1899 to 1900 according to plans by the architect Rottlender from Cologne. The building was in the style of the transition from the late Gothic to the early Renaissance : "The stately street front shows [...] in general forms of German early Renaissance forms ". The four-storey corner building at the sloping corner with rich figural decorations, Gothic pinnacles and keel arches and renaissance scrollwork showed a particularly elaborate architecture . The ground floor and first floor showed wide-span shop window systems. The upper floors above had a segment or keel arch as a window closure.
