Wargentin is an impact crater on the southwestern edge of the front of the moon , southwest of the great whale plain of the Schickard and northwest of Phocylides . The interior of the crater is completely flooded by lava, which poured over the rim of the crater onto the surrounding plateau after the crater was completely filled.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Swedish astronomer Pehr Wilhelm Wargentin .
