Warhorse

Warhorse (German " war horse " or " Haudegen ") was a British rock band that existed from 1970 to 1974. Her style is somewhere between progressive rock and hard rock .

It was founded by former Deep Purple member Nick Simper (bass) along with Ged Peck (guitar), Mac Poole (drums), Ashley Holt (singer) and Rick Wakeman (keyboard). Wakeman was soon fired again due to chronic unreliability and Frank Wilson (keyboard) helped out with the first demo recordings in 1970 , who then became a permanent member of the band. Iron Horse should be used as the band name first, but since there was already a band with the same name, the name Warhorse was chosen.

A record deal with Phonograms new Vertigo label was quickly concluded and the debut LP "Warhorse" was released in November 1970. The title "St. Louis" was released as a single in early 1971. The following tour ran into trouble with Ged Peck, who was eventually replaced by Peter Parks . After the production of the second LP "Red Sea" (which was released in May 1972), Barney replaced James Poole on drums. In July 1974, Simper decided to disband Warhorse after Holt and James left the band.

Both albums were released on CD in 1997 with bonus tracks.

The band could be seen on June 25, 1971 in the Beat Club of Radio Bremen , where they played the song The Ritual live . This recording can be heard as a CD bonus track on a compilation that was released after the band split up.
