details

The Warnow CS 1400 type is an extended variant of the Warnow CS 1200 type , the ship design of which was developed and presented by VEB Warnowwerft. After the shipyard was privatized in 1991, the CS 1400 was included in the construction catalog of the Warnow shipyard in Warnemünde and after the successor company was sold to the Norwegian Kvaerner group, the type remained in the Kvaerner Warnow shipyard's range until 1995 . The CS 1400 series was built between 1991 and 1995 for various German and foreign shipping companies. In the years of production, the type has been further developed and modernized in details, whereby the increase in container capacity due to a higher deck loading should be noted in particular. The last ship of the type built, hull number 435 with the name Astoria , was launched in the conventional way as the last ship of the shipyard.

The ships are designed as multi-purpose dry cargo ships with a deckhouse arranged aft. They are mainly used in container transport. The container capacity of the first ships was 1338 TEU, later 1388 TEU and the last series was 1,452  TEU , of which 534 TEU can be loaded below deck and 918 TEU on deck. Even with homogeneously loaded 14-tonne containers , the vast majority of the available parking spaces can be used. There are connections for a total of 150 refrigerated containers. The ships have four holds locked with pontoon hatch covers . The ships have three ship cranes arranged amidships with a lifting capacity of 45 tons each. The ships are therefore often used on liner services in regions with poorly developed port infrastructure, for example a relatively large number of ships are on South American services.

The propulsion of the ships consists of a seven-cylinder two - stroke diesel engine built under a Sulzer license from the Rostock Diesel Engine Works (DMR) with an output of over 11,000 kW. The motor acts directly on a fixed propeller and enables a speed of a good 19 knots. There are also three auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator available. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
