Warren B. Offutt (born February 13, 1928 in Brooklyn , New York - † September 20, 2017 in Cloudcroft , New Mexico ) was an American engineer , amateur astronomer and asteroid explorer.
Between 1996 and 1997 he discovered a total of 16 asteroids at his private W&B observatory in Cloudcroft, New Mexico .
His observation of the Uranus moon , later named Sycorax , contributed significantly to the exact determination of its orbit.
The asteroid (7639) Offutt was named after him on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
