Warsaw polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Warsaw Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 84). The work was performed for the first time on November 21, 1850 in the beer hall in Fünfhaus ( Vienna ).

Remarks

The polka was composed during a tour of the Strauss Chapel in what was then Russian Poland, but was not performed there. On this trip the composer also gave concerts in Warsaw . This explains the title name. The polka was dedicated to Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna (1798–1860).

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 51 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
