Wasef Bakhtari (* 1942 in Balch , Afghanistan ) is an Afghan intellectual and poet .

Life

Bakhtari studied Persian Literature at Kabul University and Education at Columbia University in the United States and worked as a professor of literature at Kabul University. Wasef Bakhtari is in the literary tradition of Rahi Moayeri, Amiri Firuskuhi and Ahmad Schamlou .

In 1996 Bakhtari and his wife Sorija first found refuge in Pakistan while fleeing the Taliban . After their influence there increased, however, the couple managed, with the help of the World Relief organization and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to flee to the United States, where they currently live in New Port Richey , Florida .
