Washington Díaz

Washington Díaz (born July 20, 1954 in Maldonado ) is a former Uruguayan cyclist .

Career

Díaz, known as El Alpache , won the time trial for the Fénix team in 1975 at the Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay . He was part of the Uruguayan squad at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal . While he did not finish in the local road race, he finished 22nd in the 4,000 meter individual pursuit and reached 16th place in the 4,000 meter team pursuit in the qualification. In the same year he took second place in the 9th stage of the Carrera Transpeninsular in Tijuana, Mexico . In 1977 he was second behind Carlos Alcántara in the overall ranking of the Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay. In 1979 he won the Vuelta de los Puentes in his home country . He started for the América team .
