The moated castle Haus Küchen is a former moated castle and aristocratic seat of the Counts of the Mark near Ahlen in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Haus Küchen was first mentioned in 1392 in the feudal books of the Counts von der Mark. The estate with one moat was owned by the von Cloedt family at that time. The Klevisch-Mark fiefdom fell to the von Mallinckrodt family in 1502 through the marriage of the heir's daughter Elseke with Hermann von Mallinckrodt, and it remained in their possession for over three centuries. The von Mallinckrodt family belonged to the Brandenburg nobility and named themselves after the Mallinckrodt house on the Ruhr in Herdecke .
In 1829 the house was inherited by the Justice Commissioner Johann Henrich Rath from Sassenberg . In 1868 Haus Küchen was sold to Ferdinand Limbrock by Auguste Rath.
architecture
The two-winged mansion has an angled outside staircase. The south wing dates from the 16th century and is equipped with a three-tier gable. The east wing from the 18th century has a half-hip roof and a coat of arms. Haus Küchen was restored from 1962 to 1965 with financial help from the state curator of Westphalia-Lippe. Today the former manor is privately owned and used as a riding stables.
