The Wasserburg Reinholdshain was a medieval moated castle in Reinholdshain , a district of the town of Dippoldiswalde in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district in Saxony . The few remains of the complex are under protection as a ground monument .

location

The remains of the castle are located in the central part of Reinholdshain, south of the road branch to Dippoldiswalde.

history

The small moated castle is archaeologically dated to 1200–1250. It originally consisted of a tower hill with a surrounding moat and a smaller outer bailey . The approx. 2 meter wide moat was fed by a small stream. The entire system had a diameter of approx. 25 meters and was also surrounded by an earth wall.

War memorial from 1904 on the site of the former moated castle

The fortification itself consisted only of wood, so that no wall remains have been preserved. The moat has also been buried today and is used as a parking lot. On the hill is a war memorial erected in 1904 for the local soldiers who died in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 . The complex has been a listed building since September 25, 1961.

The place Reinholdshain was first mentioned in 1445 as Reinholczhain . The founder was Reinold de Grimme, who lives in Reinhardtsgrimma .
