The Brisay hydropower plant (in French, Centrale Brisay ) is a storage power plant in the Canadian province of Québec . It is located in the Jamésie region on the Caniapiscau reservoir , more precisely at the outflow of the Rivière Caniapiscau .
The power plant is part of the Baie James hydropower project and has two Kaplan turbines . The installed power of the generators is 469 MW , the drop height 37.5 meters. The power station is operated by Société d'énergie de la Baie James , a subsidiary of the state-owned energy utility Hydro-Québec .
The reservoir had existed since 1984 and initially served as a storage facility for systems further downstream. Construction work on the Brisay power station began in 1990 and commissioned in 1993. It is named after Jacques-René de Brisay , Governor General of New France from 1685 to 1689. The power station is accessed via the Route Transtaïga road .
