The Mellach run-of-river power plant is a run-of-river power plant operated by Verbund AG . It is located in the village of Dillach, in the south of the Styrian municipality of Fernitz-Mellach above the Mur . The power plant, which went into operation in 1985, has two Kaplan turbines with a total installed capacity of 15.6 MW . The standard energy capacity is 74.5 GWh of electrical energy per year, which corresponds to the annual consumption of around 19,400 households.
The run-of-river power plant was planned and built in connection with the small power plant Weißenegg and the district heating power plant Mellach for the use of water power as well as cooling water supply and return of the district heating power plant. Construction began on all three plants in April 1982.
The run-of-river power plant is located in the immediate vicinity of the Neudorf-Werndorf district heating power plant (west of the Mur) and the Mellach gas and steam power plant (east of the Mur).
