Demminer water tower

The former water tower of the Hanseatic city of Demmin in the Mecklenburg Lake District is around 1400 meters southeast of the city center and 200 meters north of the train station in the Sandberg Firs. The tower is a listed building and today houses a public observatory with a planetarium .

At the end of the 19th century, the city of Demmin received a central water supply. For this purpose, the water tower was built from red brick on a hill outside the city in 1897 . This originally had a conical roof . During the GDR era, a new water supply was built near the Tollense . The water tower, which is no longer required, was converted into a public observatory with a planetarium. The conical roof was removed in favor of a viewing platform.

The planetarium has a dome 6 meters in diameter and 35 seats. A ZKP-2 SkyMaster from Zeiss serves as the projector , and a telescope is available for observation . In addition to the astronomy teaching the station for regular events will be on issues of Astronomy used.
