Herzberg water tower (Elster)

The water tower is a monument in the district town of Herzberg (Elster) in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg .

Description and history

Herzberg Planetarium (2013)

The Herzberger water tower was built between 1959 and 1960. The 37 meter high building is a square, seven-story steel frame construction with brick walls. The water tank is located in the top of the tower and office space on the remaining floors.

Since its construction, the building has been equipped with an observatory on the roof , the dome of which is three meters in diameter and was intended primarily for teaching purposes at the nearby school, today the “ Johannes Clajus ” elementary and comprehensive school . This dome has a hydraulic drive and is equipped with a visual slot tracking. The facility is currently equipped with a 12-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain LX200 telescope from Meade , which enables users to observe targeted stars up to a magnitude of 14.5 mag.

It is used today, among others, by the “Herzberger Sternfreunde eV” association, which also uses the nearby Herzberger Planetarium , which was put into operation in 1965 , and which regularly offers a wide variety of events in both facilities.
