Herzberg Planetarium (Elster)

The Herzberg Planetarium is a small planetarium and monument in the district town of Herzberg (Elster) in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg .

The building, which is surrounded by a green area, is located on the grounds of the primary and comprehensive school " Johannes Clajus " . Since its inauguration in December 1965, it has borne the name of the Soviet cosmonaut Alexej Leonow , who was the first person to venture into free space that year.

It is recorded in the local monument register under registration number 09135189.

Description and history

Herzberg Observatory (2013)

The Herzberger Kleinplanetarium was built between 1964 and 1965 and opened on December 17, 1965. E. Bauer from Halle (Saale) was responsible for the design . The building is a round, solid plastered building with a domed roof .

The facility is currently equipped with a ZKP2 planetarium projector from Carl Zeiss , additional projectors, several large video projectors, a sound system and other modern technology. It is used today by the “Herzberger Sternfreunde eV” association, which also uses the observatory on the Herzberg water tower in Wilhelm-Pieck-Ring 38, which was opened in 1960 , and offers various events there. The black-painted projection room, painted with constellations and a city silhouette of Herzberg, now houses around 70 people.
