When Siófok became one of the most popular holiday resorts on Lake Balaton at the beginning of the 20th century, the large influx of tourists required the expansion of a modern water and sewage network. Work on the aqueduct began in spring 1912. The water tower - in Hungarian Víztorony called - was in the course of this work in the years 1911-12 according to plans Jenő Gergely and Good Árpád built and served with its five meters high and 250 m³ comprehensive water basin For decades in the function intended for him, before operations ceased in 1973 and the tower was now empty. Damage caused by an anti-tank gun in World War II was repaired in the spring of 1945. In the 1980s, attempts were made to use the tower for tourism, which at 45 meters is one of the tallest structures in Siófok, for the first time, but this was not very successful.

After it fell into the administration of the city in 1992, the reinforced concrete tower has housed the city's tourist information office , which can still be found in the tower today (as of 2018). For the 100th anniversary of the tower, the structure, which at that time had only small windows and had been covered with ivy for decades, was completely renovated and equipped with two passenger lifts, a café and the so-called Szentkirályi Oxygen- Bar . Furthermore, large-scale glass fronts were installed in order to be able to use the tower better for tourism from now on. You now have the opportunity to walk around the tower on several levels or to look at the 360 ° panorama in the rotating area of the tower cage . In the lower part of the tower, an interactive presentation center was built in cooperation with Samsung . The construction work, which had already started in 2010, ended on February 10, 2012 with the ceremonial reopening of the tower.
