Baths

Indoor swimming pools

BürgerBadePark indoor swimming pool

The indoor swimming pool was built in 1932 as the "Stadtbad" and replaced the old Stadtbad on Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz. It was inaugurated on December 3, 1932. After being damaged in the war, it was restored from 1946 onwards. In 1998 a renovation took place.

Heidberg sports pool

The Heidbergbad was built in 1973 with a 25-meter swimmer pool, non-swimmer and paddling pool and a state-of-the-art water treatment system. In 1993 the pool was expanded to become the Heidberg sports pool and today consists of a 25-meter (5 swimming lanes) and 50-meter (8 swimming lanes) swimming pool with a total water surface of approx. 1500 m². Regional and national swimming competitions as well as water polo games take place here. In 1996 and 2001 the German Swimming Championships took place here.

Leisure pools

Water world

The Wasserwelt Braunschweig leisure pool was opened on July 14, 2014. The bathroom, which was designed by KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten , is designed for 500,000 visitors a year. The water surface amounts to a total of 1059 m², of which 386 m² are leisure pools, 120 m² active pools, 112 m² diving pools, 35 m² paddling pools and 28 m² other pools. The sports pool, which is not always open to the public, measures 378 m². The associated sauna area has 5 sauna rooms (2 of which are outside and 1 steam sauna) as well as a bathing pond with 500 m 2 .

In the course of the establishment of this pool, the indoor pools Wenden, Gliesmarode and Nordbad were closed.

Gliesmarode bathing center

The indoor pool, opened in 1979, had six pools: swimmer, non-swimmer, warm, paddling, outdoor and jumping pool. In addition, it had a jumping facility, a 96 m long water slide , a lawn, a sauna and a restaurant. The total water area was 700 m 2 . The bath was initially closed on July 10, 2014.

A private support association campaigned for its continued existence. The entrepreneur Friedrich Knapp took over the bathing area from the city for use and invested over six million euros. On June 23, 2016 at 8 a.m., the pool was reopened at the beginning of the Lower Saxony summer vacation.

Outdoor pools

Bürgerpark outdoor pool

This bath opened on June 24, 1950.

Raffteichbad

The Raffteichbad was opened in 1977. It is named after a natural pond, the Raffteich , but people swim in pools. In the early years up to 1988, the 50 m pool was spanned with an air dome in the cold months so that the pool could also be used as a winter pool. During this time, the bath also served the Braunschweig water sports clubs as a training facility; today it is the Heidberg sports pool in particular that takes on this role. In addition to the swimming pool, music events etc. also take place in the Raffteichbad.

Waggum outdoor swimming pool

The Waggum outdoor pool was built in the 1960s and, like the Wenden indoor pool, was incorporated into Stadtbad Braunschweig GmbH in 1974. The operation of the pool is supported by the Swimming Pool Waggum eV association. There were plans to close this bath for reasons of economy as soon as the water world was completed.

Former baths

Volksbrausebad Ferdinandstrasse

The Volksbrausebad Ferdinandstrasse , also known as “Volksbrausebad Wilhelmitorwall”, later “Volksbad” in Ferdinandstrasse in Braunschweig was opened on August 16, 1890 as the first public bath of its kind in the city. The public bathing establishment operated until 1969 and is now a residential building.

Stadtbad on Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz

Was replaced by the BürgerBadePark indoor swimming pool in 1932.

Nordbad

The north pool was opened in 1969 as a so-called "Europe pool" with a 25-meter swimmer pool. A Europabad is a bath that was built inexpensively. The rooms in which the guests stay for a longer period of time were designed more elaborately than the less important rooms. The principles for this were laid down in 1969 at a seminar organized by the Sport Group of the Council of Europe. It was the first European pool in Germany. In 1986 the north pool was expanded to include a sauna and the club house of the Germania 08 eV swimming sports club. This bath was closed on June 30, 2014.

Sackring bathroom

Like the Nordbad, the Sackring indoor pool was built in 1973 as a European pool with a 25-meter swimmer's pool. It also had family cabins, a cafeteria, and recreational rooms. In 1996 it was closed for economic reasons. Today the building is used as the auditorium of the Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben School .

Korfesstrasse exercise pool

This indoor pool was opened in 1978 and closed again in 2008. It was not available to the general public, only aqua courses and baby swimming courses were held here. The only pool in this pool was only 11 × 6 meters in size and had a constant water temperature of 32 ° C.

Kennelbad (other operator)

The Kennelbad is an outdoor pool with a natural lake with a sandy beach. The bathing pond and the pre-pond were created from earlier dumping ponds for the Braunschweig drinking water supply. In 1883 they were separated from the then existing kennel pond and until 1911 the purified water was directed to the Bürgerpark waterworks. The pre-pond is still used today as a cleaning basin for the Oker water before it flows into the swimming lake.

The city of Braunschweig took over the entire kennel area in 1935. In the 1950s, a swimming pool with a diving tower was built, which was supplied with preheated water from 1969. The entire bath came to Stadtbad Braunschweig GmbH in 1969. In 2002 it was supposed to be closed for financial reasons, but was given to the Kennel-Bad e. V. who still operates it today.

It is located in the kennel area near the Oker .

Wenden indoor swimming pool

The swimming pool was built in 1973 and was incorporated into Stadtbad Braunschweig GmbH in 1974 . It was closed on March 31, 2014. A new administration building for Perschmann GmbH is to be built on the site.
