Velen-Tannenbültenberg waterworks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Velen-Tannenbültenberg waterworks is located in the North Rhine-Westphalian Westmünsterland south of Velen - Ramsdorf on the north slope ( 80  m above sea  level ) of the Tannenbültenberg ( 107.4  m above sea level ), the highest point of the mountain range Die Berge .

The waterworks of RWW Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerkgesellschaft mbH have been extracting drinking water from three deep wells since 1958 . From a depth of 60 to 100 meters, this fountain gallery pumps ultra-pure groundwater from the Haltern Sands and the Recklinghausen sand marls. Only the naturally higher concentration of dissolved iron requires treatment using a de-ironing system .

The entire waterworks was modernized in 1995/1996 with a new treatment and storage system. The iron removal capacity was increased to 300 m³ / h. The residues of the system are collected and disposed of together with those of the RWW waterworks Dorsten-Holsterhausen . The waterworks is monitored and controlled by the RWW-Ruhrwasserwerk Styrum / Ost .

In September 1979, the Münster district government established the Velen-Tannenbültenberg water protection area of around 290 hectares.

The waterworks supplies the city of Velen and the districts Burlo and Weseke of the district town of Borken. In recent years, 300,000 m³ to 335,000 m³ of groundwater have been pumped and treated in the waterworks.
