Vasily Ivanovich Gordiyenko
Wassili Ivanovich Gordiyenko ( Russian Василий Иванович Гордиенко , English transcription Vasiliy Gordiyenko; * May 14, 1914 ; date of death unknown) was a Soviet marathon runner .
After a third place in 1945 and a second in 1946, he became Soviet champion in 1947 in 2:37:00 h. In 1948 it increased to 2:32:24 h, but had to admit defeat to Feodossi Wanin , who ran the third fastest time of the year with 2:31:55 h. In 1949 he was Soviet champion for the second time with 2:34:50 h.
In 1950 Gordijenko was the second fastest time of the year of 2:29:21 h, Soviet runners-up behind Wanin in 2:29:10 h. Both started at the European Athletics Championships in Brussels , where Gordijenko finished fifth in 2:34:37 h, just under a minute behind bronze medalist Wanin.
