The Wat Ku ( Thai วัด กู้ ) is a Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) in the city of Pak Kret ( Nonthaburi Province ), a northern suburb of the Thai capital Bangkok .

location

Wat Ku is located on the eastern bank of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya (Chao Phraya River) in the Tambon (subdistrict) Bang Phut, which belongs to the city of Pak Kret .

Building history

Wat Ku was built in the late 18th century under King Taksin , who brought the Mon from Burma to Siam in order to gain workers and craftsmen. At that time, their leader Phraya Cheng drew many of his compatriots to Thailand. The facility and the architecture are therefore kept in the style of the Mon.

The following attractions are located in the area of Wat Ku.

A small sala (pavilion) in the style of the Phra Thinang Aisawan Thippayat (พระที่นั่ง ไอศวรรย์ ทิพยอาสน์ ) in Bang Pa-in , which King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) had built, commemorates Queen Sunandha Kumariratana , who was nearby during a tragic event Boat accident and was laid out for a short time in the temple. The crashed boat was later recovered and exhibited in a small building on the temple grounds of Wat Ku. A large statue in front of the pavilion shows the Buddha lying down.

The wall paintings are, like the whole temple, in the style of the Mon and show representations from the life of the Buddha.
